PETER GREVEN – Your partner for plastic additives

The plastics industry offers a wide range of applications for our products, making it one of our key sectors. In general, oleochemical additives play a vital role in improving the flowability and processability of plastic components and mixtures. By incorporating these additives, manufacturers can achieve better processing efficiency and product quality.

Metal Soaps - Essential Additives

Metal soaps are among the most effective stabilizers used in the plastics industry, renowned for their excellent stabilizing and lubricating properties. These versatile compounds also serve critical roles as acid scavengers and mould release agents, enhancing the overall performance of plastic formulations.

Esters - Key Lubricants

Ester lubricants are indispensable additives in the plastics sector. Their performance and characteristics are influenced by the balance of functional groups and non-polar components, which are crucial for optimizing their effectiveness in various applications.

Application areas

PVC

Despite processing challenges, PVC (Polyvinylchloride) is one of the most widely used plastics. To ensure efficient PVC processing, the use of various additives is essential, including stabilizers, preblends, and lubricants.

Metal soaps are highly effective stabilizers for PVC, providing excellent lubrication properties as well. Our extensive product portfolio features calcium and zinc stearates. Additionally, we offer customized metal soap preblends tailored to meet specific processing requirements.

While metal soaps provide notable lubrication, esters are often required as supplementary lubricants. Our comprehensive range of ester products provides solutions for both internal and external lubrication, enhancing the overall performance of PVC formulations.

Polyolefins

Polyolefins encompasses polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE), two of the most widely used and recognized plastics. Unlike PVC, polyolefins are significantly easier to process, making them a preferred choice in various applications.

Metal soaps are essential additives for polyolefins, with calcium stearate and zinc stearate being the most commonly used products. These additives serve primarily as acid scavengers, preventing corrosion of processing tools caused by acids generated during manufacturing. Additionally, they provide a beneficial lubricating effect

Our comprehensive product portfolio is designed to meet specific application requirements, ensuring excellent filter test results and optimal performance.

While esters are not always needed as lubricants in polyolefin applications, they can offer additional advantages, enhancing the overall processing efficiency.

SMC / BMC

SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) and BMC (Bulk Moulding Compound) are advanced fiber-reinforced plastics known for their superior resilience compared to PVC and polyolefins. This enhanced durability makes them ideal for a variety of applications.

Metal soaps are essential additives used as mould release agents. They facilitate easy separation of the plastic mass from the mould without compromising surface quality. The most commonly used metal soaps are calcium and zinc stearates, with zinc stearate often preferred for its lower melting point.

Engineering Plastics

Engineering plastics are distinguished from standard plastics by their superior mechanical and thermal properties, as well as enhanced chemical stability. This category encompasses a variety of plastic types tailored for specific applications.

Metal soaps and ester lubricants plays a crucial role in the production of engineering plastics. The choice of products depends on the specific type of plastic being processed.

Our product portfolio is used for the following plastics:

  • PS / EPS (polystyrene / expanded polystyrene)
  • ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer)
  • PC (polycarbonate)
  • PET / PBT (polyethylene terephthalate / polybutylene terephthalate)
  • PA (polyamide)
  • PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate)
